I think the most important take away from your post is knowing where your customers are in Social Media! I believe twitter is a valid outlet for almost all industries and I agree some seem to have a much larger percentage of customers using the platform.

I just completed a great post on Square Martini Media about Naked Pizza, which is a one location takeout and delivery restaurant in New Orleans. They are using twitter with great success having days where sales from twitter represents over 50% of their sales! It's a great business to consumer case study on twitter.

In a short amount of time I believe we will have many more great success stories with businesses using twitter both for b2b and b2c marketing.

Find me on twitter at http://www.twitter.com/alanunderkofler to continue the conversation.

Twitter is a great way to stay in touch with your customers to provide support and to keep them updated about new products and discounted offers. It helps generate plenty of reorders for us. In fact, we include our twitter info on all of our offline materials.
